IWC Unveils the Ingenieur SL’s Cinematic Revival
IWC revives Genta’s bold Ingenieur SL with a cinematic tribute that honors a 1970s icon once seen as too visionary for its time.

At the 2025 Goodwood Members’ Meeting, IWC Schaffhausen unveiled a short film honoring the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832—an audacious creation by legendary designer Gérald Genta.

Born in the turbulence of the 1970s, this stainless steel timepiece with an integrated bracelet was marketed solely to engineers.
Bold for its era, it failed to resonate commercially, with just 598 pieces produced. Yet over time, it became a cult classic, coveted by collectors and tastemakers alike.
Titled The Most Brilliant Failure, the film blends fact and fiction, following one green-dial Ingenieur SL as it changes hands from a daring racing driver to his daughter.

The story mirrors the real-life journey of the watch: from overlooked innovation to sought-after collectible.
Premiering shortly after the launch of IWC’s revived Ingenieur line at Watches and Wonders Geneva, the film pays tribute not only to the original design but also to Genta’s visionary legacy.
With support from Evelyne and Alexia Genta and a cinematic team led by Rune Milton, the piece is as much a love letter to design as it is to the enduring allure of time.
